Resistance finding of Bacillus anthracis towards penicillin in East Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta Provinces, Indonesia

Abstract Anthrax is a worldwide distributing zoonotic disease, caused by Bacillus anthracis , which occurs sporadically in Indonesia, particularly the provinces of East Java, Central and Yogyakarta, are working areas Disease Investigation Center (DIC) Wates. Penicillin has been primary antimicrobial treatment recommended for anthrax since there never report resistance to this antibiotic Indonesia. The objective research was assess sensitivity B. isolates from Yogyakarta penicillin tetracycline. Sixteen DIC Wates collected between 1990-2021 recovered environmental samples were used study. All identified phenotype, then tested tetracycline agar diffusion (Kirby-Bauer) broth dilution method. data obtained compared with standard analyzed descriptively. results showed that all . One 16 (6,25%) consistently penicillin, but sensitive tetracycline, while 15 (93,75%) both antibiotics. A penicillin-resistant isolate soil sample endemic area. In conclusion, found penicillin. Therefore, can be as an alternative treatment.
